After learning that Regina is in financial trouble, the Kennishes invite her and Daphne to move into their guest house. Bay discovers that she and her biological mother Regina have a lot in common, and the Kennishes have their first experiences with Deafness and Deaf Culture. After taking a DNA test, the Kennishes learn that she was in fact switched at birth with Daphne Vasquez, an athletic Deaf teen living with her single mother Regina and grandmother Adrianna on the other side of town. Through a school experiment, she discovers that her blood type is different from her family's.
